Jaq Masters is a Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artist, muralist, printmaker, and organizer whose work explores surrealistic portraiture, astrology, memory, adornment, and cyclical existence. Born and raised in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Masters creates paintings, murals, prints, and collaborative public works that reflect themes of rest, transformation, intimacy, and collective care. Their practice often centers Black community life through symbolic imagery, layered textures, and storytelling rooted in lived experience.
Alongside studio practice, Masters has worked for over a decade as both a lead and assistant mural artist, creating large-scale public works throughout Philadelphia. Their work extends beyond galleries and walls into organizing, education, and community engagement through collaborations with youth, neighborhood organizations, housing justice groups, and artist collectives. Through portraiture, public art, and printmaking, Masters creates spaces that honor memory, resilience, and imagination.
